WANTED IN ROME “A Danish Dream in Abruzzo”Margaret Stenhouse writes an article about the mountain village of Civita D’Antino that was once home of a colony of Scandinavian artists. The village was very badly damaged during the 1915 earthquake. Professor Antonio Bini is putting this forgotten colony of Danish artists in Abruzzo back on the map . He wrote the book “The Italian Dream of Kristian Zahrtmann”with documents and reflections, between the past and the present, so as not to forget Zahrtmann and the Scandinavian painters and to break the age long oblivion which wraps Civita d’Antino since the earthquake .

Running exhibition from May 28th to June 26th, 2010 “L’Abruzzo of Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972)” The exhibition is organized by the Foundation Pescarabruzzo and the cultural association Culture Tracks at the exhibition hall of the Foundation – Maison des Arts in C.so Umberto I, n. 83 in Pescara It presents works that the Dutch artist created inspired by his travels in the Abruzzo region in the years 1928-1935. Reproductions of Escher’s major works present in the greatest museums in the world, are on display. Abruzzese cuisine, as well as culture, tradition, landscape, is the undiscovered treasure of Italy. The journalist says: “those images you know from paintings and movies? They’re real” in Abruzzo.

“CAMPING IS OFFERED”The municipality of Tagliacozzo has opened a tender for the management of the campsite Roccacerro in the village Ara of Pali. The tender will expire at 12 pm on April 21. The campsite that was built in the 90's and now abandoned, is a real gem, set among oaks and beech trees, two buildings, pitches and open spaces. For info: www.comune.tagliacozzo.aq.it

On Monday Hollywood star Gorge Clooney began shooting a film in Abruzzo. He said he hoped the film would inject some money into the local economy. In the movie, that is an adaptation of the Martin Booth novel “A very private gentleman”, Clooney will play a killer who hides out in a idyllic Italian town. The shoot will take place until november in Castel del Monte, Castelvecchio Calvisio, Rocca Calascio, Sulmona, and other locations around the quake-stricken city of L’Aquila. The movie is directed by the Dutch photographer and video- clip director Anton Corbijn.

The demand for second homes has increased this year . The phenomenon appears to be most pronounced among young families with children(36,4 percent) who choose to buy in Abruzzo (9 percent). According a study carried out by The Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Craft Trade and Agriculture of Milan (OSMI) on thirty real estate brokers in July 2009, Abruzzo region ranks third after Liguria (36 percent) and Lombardy (18 percent). Abruzzoshire project, taking advantage of house prices decline (Tecnocasa, Construction Company, estimates a 3,3 percent decrease in prices across the country, with a 6 percent drop in Abruzzo and Tuscany) was soon able to compete with and then, to surpass Tuscany (only 6 percent investors chooses Tuscany) in the Milan Housing Market. Amongst the provinces of the region which showed a significant decrease in house prices, Chieti recorded a decrease of 7,2 percent, followed by Pescara (7,5 percent) and Teramo (5 percent).

The art exhibition"THE LONG JOURNEY FROM THE NORTH 1877 – 1915, Abruzzo in the paintings of Scandinavian Artists- Civita d’Antino and Zahrtmann's School” at Masons des Arts in Pescara, stops on July 31, 2009. The two Danish artists, KIRSTEN MURHART and HELLE FIBIGER, who have recently interested in Abruzzo, have been invited to participate.

The American actor Michael Imperioli and his wife Victoria Chlebowski, are going to buy property in Abruzzo. Michael, who is best known for his role as Christopher Moltisanti on The Sopranos, chose L’Aquila to spend the last days of 2008 and was attracted by the beauty of the town. It is believed the actor will celebrate his 43rd birthday , buying a property there.

The English writer and journalist Liz Franklin has just opened a B&B called “Il tratturello”. It is located in the beautiful countryside of Orsogna, near to both the Majella Mountains and the seaside, where Franklin chose to live. She is the authoress of many cookery books. Soglia Hotels Group – after taking over CIT (Compagnia Italiana del Turismo) for 120 millions of Euros – has bought the Pescara Calcio Football Team. The acquisition is related to tourism-real estate investments in Abruzzo.
